The Joys of Volunteering
Since I have been busy the past few weeks working with the Sacramento Police Mounted Assocation and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on upcoming events, I don't have any new volunteer activities to share. I can tell you, though, that the events I AM working on are worth the extra effort :)
One of my favorite things about working with different non-profits in the community is the variety of skills, experience and creativity that I get to use. It never gets boring. So, the past few weeks have been a multi-taskers dream. Volunteering offers something different for everyone.
Upcoming Events
SPMA "5-0 Showdeo"
Currently, I am securing our lunch donations for the foster kids that will be coming out for their own special experience of the 5-0 Show-deo. I have been in discussion with local businesses and vendors for raffle items, as well as, coordinating collections sites for the clothing drive for the Sacramento Children's Receiving Home. We will be collecting clothing, shoes and toiletries at different sites around the Sacramento area, which will be presented to the Receiving Home at the rodeo.
I am still looking for the following for the 5-0 Show-deo:
- Volunteers to help at the event
- Raffle Items
- Lunch Donation for 75 foster children - in the past Chick fil-A had brought out kids meals and chicken sandwiches. We would like to do something similar this time around.
While I have been plenty busy with the rodeo, I also have commitments as the sponsorship coordinator for the AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk in October. Between my regular job and being a mother of 5, I have been squeezing in follow up calls to local corporations to confirm sponsorships for the walk. It is a good networking opportunity and fullfills some of my need to talk incessantly. If you think your organization would be willing to sponsor this event, please let me know. Also, please visit the website to register for the walk.
Volunteer Resources
If you are interested in other volunteer opportunities, please take a few minutes to visit one of my favorite local volunteer resources, The Volunteer Center of Sacramento. There are endless volunteer opportunities posted there for all ages and interests:
